Conducted over a middle-sprint distance of 1400m under set weights plus penalty conditions, the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes is worth $150000 in prize money and is one of eight races making up the elite race card for Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The biggest meeting held in Victoria during the autumn racing season, the marquee race of the day is the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds and other highlights on the card worth a punt on include the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1600m) and the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m). The day also features three Group 2 events, the St George Stakes (1800m), Autumn Classic (1800m), and the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m).

Mannerism Stakes History

One of the younger races held at Caulfield, the Mannerism Stakes was inaugurated in 1989 when English Charm claimed victory.

Originally called the Fashion Stakes, the race started out as a Listed event before gaining Group 3 status in 1993.

The race name was changed to its current Mannerism Stakes title in 1995, and for two years in 1996 and 1997 the Mannerism Stakes was run over 1411m.

Mannerism Stakes Betting

A quality mares’ showdown, the Mannerism Stakes is also a great betting opportunity for punters during the autumn.

When looking for a guide to your Mannerism Stakes selections there are a number of good lead-up races including the Group 3 Geoffrey Belmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in early February as well as the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) at Randwick in Sydney.

Mares that run in the Mannerism Stakes may continue on to contest the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington a fortnight later before heading to Sydney for the more lucrative events including the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Classic (1500m) at Rosehill in mid-March and the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) in early April, so look for the doubles betting markets that combine these races.

Mannerism Stakes Betting

As a race restricted to mares, betting on the Mannerism Stakes can be somewhat easy if you know what to look for. Without any colts and geldings in the event, Mannerism Stakes betting takes on a different note, and quickly becomes a comparison of past experience.

A good Mannerism Stakes betting tip is to consider how each mare has performed against colts and geldings in other races where competition was open. As a set weights and penalties event, when you make your betting selections, check out the weight penalties each horse has been given.

The boxed quinella is a popular punt in the Mannerism Stakes. You can usually spot two likely winners out of the field, and betting on those two can often return solid dividends.
